Industrial gas supplier Praxair Inc. has recently announced that its Mexico business has signed a deal to supply oxygen to Johnson Controls Inc. for use in battery recycling.
However, financial conditions of the deal were not revealed.
Meanwhile, the Praxair Mexico unit will establish and operate a vacuum pressure swing adsorption plant, which separates different types of gases. Further, the plant will supply approx 140 tons of oxygen ona daily basis to Johnson Controls, which will use it in a process that recovers the lead from lead acid batteries.
According to the statement released by the Praxair, “The plant will go into operation in the fourth quarter. When the plant is online, Johnson Controls will be able to recycle all the batteries it produces in Mexico.”
Further, shares of Danbury, Conn.-based Praxair declined by 2 cents to $86.79 in afternoon trading. Shares of Johnson Controls, which is headquartered in Milwaukee, gained 7 cents to $32.76.
