Toronto bags 2015 Pan-American Games hosting

Toronto city has been declared as the host city for the 2015 Pan-American Games.

The Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper has accept the decision gladly that the 17th Pan American and Parapan American Games have been presented to Toronto and the Greater Golden Horseshoe region of Ontario.

While talking to reporter, Canadian PM said, “This is an exciting day for all Canadians. We are all looking forward to welcoming the Games in 2015. Canadians love sports and we are known for our hospitality, an unbeatable combination for successful Games.”

While announcing the name, the president of the Pan-American Sports Organization (Odepa), Mario Vazquez Rana said, “The city that will assume the responsibility for the 2015 Pan-American Games is....Toronto.”

During the first round of the voting, Toronto was leading with 33 votes, while Lima received 11 votes and Bogota had seven.

Earlier, Canada had organized the Pan-American Games twice – in Winnipeg in 1967 and 1999.

“Toronto promises to organize the best Pan-American Games in history and I am certain that Lima and Bogota will one day win the right to host them,” said David Miller, mayor of Toronto city.

City’s budget for the 2015 Games is 2.5 billion dollars, which is 10 times more than the 259 million of Lima with Bogota's budget set at 200 million.
