Mexico’s Auto Production Surges 2.9% In November

The production of Mexican auto increased in the month of November as compared to a year ago in the same period. Registering its first growth period in over a year as exports to the United Sates increased in the early stages of an economic recovery.

While talking to reporters, the company said that the production surged 2.9 percent from November 2008 at 176,655 units.

In a declaration, the company said, “Exports in November slipped 2.6% from the year-ago month to 134,873 units, while domestic new car sales continued to lag, falling 17% from the year-ago month to 64,913 units.”

Mexico’s auto production has recovered due to the improved demand for cars in the United States after a 50 percent fall in the last year.

Further, talking to reporters, a company’s spokesperson said, “The Mexican auto industry continues living its most critical year and its recovery, along with that of the domestic economy, will be slow.”

Auto production in first 11 months of this year has declined by 32 percent from last year to 1.35 million.

Exports remained down by 30% to 1.08 million cars and local sales sank 28% to 662,957.

Talking to media, AMIA President Eduardo Solis said, “The economic crisis caused Mexico's auto sector to shed about 250,000 jobs, mostly at auto-parts suppliers.”
