According to the supervisor of Mexican telecom, Cofetel, Mexico has decided to run two set of spectrum sales in the first half of 2010.
Moreover, Mexican telecoms watchdog, Cofetel, is planning to achieve the two spectrums during the first half of 2010. The sale of the spectrum blocks for wireless broadband and phone services will be integrated to be allotted to the companies making the peak offers.
Moreover, the supervisor said that it is aiming to auction nine blocks in the 1,850-1,990 megahertz band in eight of the nation’s nine mobile telephone operations areas.
However, the technical conditions of the two auctions will be made available to investors by January 8, 2010.
The bidders will have to be sanctioned by the antitrust agency, the Federal Competition Commission, to be able to participate.
The potential bidders include Televisa, which is eyeing associates to take part in in the spectrum auctions; Grupo Iusacell, which is in talks with creditors to restructure its debt; and Nextel Mexico, a unit of NII Holdings, a US company which also has interests in Argentina, Chile and Peru.
