Mexico appoints new boss at Wal-Mart

Wal-Mart Stores Inc. has selected Eduardo Solorzano as the head of its Mexican operations to keep an eye over all the retail giant’s Latin American business, just seven months after the company’s former Asian chief was given the job.

According to the statement issued by the Wal-Mart, “Latin America chief Vicente Trius would be leaving, though a reason for his departure wasn't given. It was announced in late May that he would lead the Latin America operations starting July 6.”

In general, Wal-Mart’s international division accounts for almost 25 percent of the retailer’s total revenue, which was $400 billion in 2008.

Further, the note said, “Mr. Solorzano will be based in Miami and oversee Wal-Mart's operations in nine countries and Puerto Rico. He will start that job Jan. 18 and be succeeded as leader of Walmart de Mexico SAB by Chief Operating Officer Scot Rank.”

Mr. Solorzano headed that business since 2005, supervising a doubling of Wal-Mart’s business in the country. The business will shortly rise again as Walmex plans to acquire Wal-Mart Centroamerican from its parent company and regional investors for $2.7 billion in a stock deal.
