According to the members of Mexico’s Senate, the most recent data on a fall in money sent home by Mexican employees staying abroad showed hard times are befalling the country’s poor.
While talking to reporters, Sen. Jesus Garibay Garcia and Sen. Rosalinda Lopez Hernandez said, “As a result of this, two million families will fall under the poverty level, especially in Mexico.”
As per the new report issued by the Bank of Mexico, the amount of money Mexican workers living abroad sent home during the first eleven months of last year declined 16%.
In an interview, Mexican President Felipe Calderon said, “The United States economy collapsed upon us.”
Further, some economists stated that the higher jobless rate in the country resulted partially from the construction business.
Mexicans sent home $19.6 billion from January through November last year as compared with $23.4 billion in the same period in 2008.
Even though, the Bank of Mexico figures showed remittances from all nations, the majority of it came from the United States.
