Wal-Mart de Mexico, S. A. B. de C. V. has recently announced that it has invested around 1.7 billion pesos ($130 million) in December to open 78 new stores all over the country.
During the announcement, Mexico’s leading hypermarket chain said that it has inaugurated new stores in Mexico City and 12 states – Aguascalientes, Chihuahua, Durango, Mexico, Hidalgo, Jalisco, Nuevo Leon, Puebla, Sonora, Tabasco, Veracruz and Yucatan – and added that 2,200 new permanent positions were produced.
While talking to reporters, Wal-Mart de Mexico Vice President Raul Argüelles said, “We’re committed to the country’s growth, which we are (promoting) by creating permanent jobs and bringing our value offer to more families.”
The country’s leading hypermarket runs 1,410 retail outlets in Mexico ranging from discount stores such as Bodega Aurrera, Walmart and Superama, the Sam’s Club membership warehouse club, the Suburbia apparel chain and the Vips, El Porton and Ragazzi restaurants.
Earlier in December last year, the company has announced the purchases of 100% of Walmart Centroamerica for 1.4 billion pesos (US$110 million) in cash and 593 million shares.
